'Skool’s Out' and Antic Youth Theatre

Antic Youth’s Production, ‘Outside my Window’, gave young people from Swansea’s disadvantaged areas the opportunity to explore connections between the arts and their everyday lives. Supported and encouraged by professional artists, Antic’s members devised a performance inspired by a visit to the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery’s exhibition, Ernest Zobole & Ystrad.

The young people investigated Zobole’s paintings, looking at colours, shapes, people and places, creating a performance that included, dance, drama, music and poetry. Individuals were encouraged to look at their own landscapes and communities, just like Zobole did in Ystrad. They developed their own thoughts and opinions, communicating these through performance.

Antic encourages their members to physically and emotionally express themselves in a nurturing environment, building confidence, self-esteem and praise in the presence of their peers. Antic mentors instil a positive and enthusiastic attitude to individuals’ achievements, qualities that families are encouraged to admire and observe in performance.
