MAST Summer School ‘06

Young people from all over Swansea took part in the second MAST art summer school at Swansea Museum. Activities on offer included drawing, beach art, sculpture, video, story telling and performance, using the museum’s Egyptian collection for inspiration.

The first week culminated in the Mummy March, when some of the young people dressed as mummies and paraded through the streets of Swansea to the astonishment of passers-by. The march finished in Castle Gardens in the centre of Swansea where a mummy sculpture was ceremoniously consigned to the water. Visitors and shoppers alike cheered the marchers on and some even joined in. The march enabled the museum to take to the streets and promoted its wonderful collection.

During the second week the young people who attended concentrated on video, creating storylines, writing scripts, making props, filming and editing to produce some entertaining short films to which they added their own music.
