Art Project
The aim of this project was to produce visual artwork for the community house at Fairview, including a sign for the outside of the building and pieces of art which would decorate a number of rooms inside.
The young people's interests laid in accessible and individualistic urban art, an idea which evolved into the creation of large scale paintings of the young people’s choice. The group researched graffiti imagery in books and discussed the type of work they could achieve in the house. The young people then used disposable cameras to take photographs of their environment and themselves and chose the subjects which would best display their way of life. These images were enlarged and transferred onto large scale boards which were painted on site.
The group was inspired by their visit to Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales’s Faces of Wales Exhibition to examine and view examples of portraits which the young people used to create their own self portraits and to develop their skills and knowledge as artists.
