If such a module were to be developed through the Open College Network, it would have a number of direct benefits in the field and meet the aims of the OCG Scheme by:
- highlighting and reinforcing the role of the arts & culture in youth work delivery;
- injecting modern thinking and new practices into this field;
- encouraging youth work practitioners to build artistic & cultural experiences into their delivery schemes;
- providing an opportunity for more practitioners to develop a working relationship with Amgueddfa Cymru ~ National Museum Wales and other local arts and cultural organisations
- introducing more young people to artistic and cultural activities, and hopefully encouraging a modern and positive attitude towards Amgueddfa Cymru ~ National Museum Wales and what it can offer them.
It is also clear from our evaluation that the OCG scheme is an excellent example of Amgueddfa Cymru ~ National Museum Wales’ commitment to reach important new audiences that have not traditionally had any contact with the institution. Large numbers of young people from disadvantaged communities were reached and benefited. Whatever way Amgueddfa Cymru ~ National Museum Wales decides to take the OCG scheme (or its intrinsic principles) forward in future, we hope that its great potential to contribute to the realisation of Vision objectives is recognised and that it will progressively become ‘mainstreamed’ across the institution.
