Collaborative Arts and Media Project, Cwmbran Young People’s Project (CYPP) and Valley and Vale Community Arts
This project was set up to engage young people in the history and culture of their local area. After the first meeting, the group decided that they wanted to produce a visual art and film project to express their ideas about living in Cwmbran. The group came up with a list of what they thought was good and bad about living in Cwmbran. Initially the bad list was longer, but together they realised that they knew quite a lot about Cwmbran.
The young people put all their ideas together to produce an innovative display which included a short film, a clay seal, talking clay heads and graffiti back-projections.
Many of the young people involved were not confident at all about their abilities to produce any artwork at the start of the project. Some were also experiencing difficulties and challenges in their personal lives, which impacted upon the project. We were keen to encourage them to realise what they could achieve, and to build confidence and self-esteem through creativity. The young people worked extremely hard to produce some very exciting pieces of work.
